Jacopo Vignaili " The Head

Jacopo Vignaili (Italian 1592-1664)
I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The most interesting painting I saw was the "Head of the Young Woman with Coral Necklace"The ting that drew me to this picture is the fact that it was a women's face.In fact if I could afford to create a collections it would be a collection of women 's faces. The drama in all of the pieces of art that I see know seems so interesting .
Black and Red Chalk on a white canvas with small framing. This made me understand that paintings did not have to be done in paint only. The thin frame was chosen around the picture maybe because the picture said it all. Vignaili usually dose religious or secular work. This piece was probably a study piece. This is out of the normal work pieces that he dose. There are no icon, or symbols in it . Mostly he enjoyed doing painting that had alter pieces in it.
He was born in Prativecchio and trained under the artist Matteo Rosselli. Was of his most famous works the ceiling of fresco of the "love fi tage Fatherland and Jacob's dream fit he Casa Bunoarroti in Florence.
My personal experience with this art work was almost ironic. If a piece of work that showed no feeling, made me feel . This Meloncolony feeling I see in the picture brought me to think of to thing, one of Abraham Lincoln and a poem called "Casey at the Bat"I found it quite interesting to see the choice of color used by the artist. It seemed as if he wanted to use the red chalk to highlight the picture and the feeling points on the canvas. I saw feeling in the eyes highlighted in the red, cheeks , even when he high lighted the bow and necklace he wanted to show the contrast between some thing pretty and happy verses the cheeks and eyes that were said. This could have been the medium of the art work. No matter how beautiful the things you were look pretty, unless you feel pretty about yourself it will never show. This is the message i took form the painting . This piece of work falls under a realist, Expression .
The coral necklace has a clap that looks like a butterfly. I wonder if there was any meaning .Young women turn inti beautiful women and butterflies have changed also. Art makes you think about life and its changes.

The Methodology of this work is simplicity. It appears as simple as it is because some the artist wanted to simply say , live live, two ways happy or sad. The simple young women is still a women .Simple things in life are beautiful. This piece of art work clearly dose fall under Feminism work. The gender preception is dull, lifeless, and with out feeling .Femisim work was full of life bright and strong .

  1. You should spend some time telling us about the Museum itself... what were your impressions?

I wouldn't read too much into this regarding Feminism....that was still a few hundred years off...This was the Renaissance and with it came a renewed interest in classic depictions of the human form...
