Here are some pictures I just wanted to share

African Art West Indian Social Gallery/Yale Gallery

Though my traveling I had to choose African Art. My mother and her friends foundation put , on an exhibit of African Art. African are as seen to the right has many different kinds of Art. The most common African art work can be see as "traditional art". This means cultures societies and past civilizations. Some examples of different African Art work can be seen as "African Diasporas and African American Art.
The African art that I grew up knowing was Jamaican African Art. Eugene Hyde painted this oil and mixed media on Canvas. The price of a painting like this is 3, 000 us dollars.
the art work sen in Yale art Gallery is a collection from the African south if the Sahara . Making of art from work , carved heads and ceramics, and other materials from natural resources .
The mask above is from the West Africa , Liberia. Most African art focuses on the human fugues. These "visual abstractions ": African works tend to favor visual abstractions over natural representation(wikipedia , 2009)
The "Emphasis on sculpture" African art is tend to favor three dimension art work over two dimensional art work.
African art work can be painting also. These painting tells stories of Cairo , cultures of how people had salves and how women had to wait in the Harlem while the men met.

Fellowship Gallery Essay Art helps to Heal

The artist name "Allen" born in Greenwich Connecticut. He was a teacher. Allen fell in to the mental health life in adult hood. He teaches art till this day. Allen loves to paint and is the clown of the art therapy class. I chose Allen's work because of his signature style . The black lines though the picture , I have seen in many of his work.
Placing the picture on it side is a style of his also. My personal experience with his work is that I some times get confused in what he is painting, Although I am in tuned with residents that I serve, often what they are thinking is not how thy express it.I place his work in expression style.
Many mental patients only can express their emotions though art. Art gives them a sense of accomplishment and social interaction with other artist. The open art studio of Fellowship gives artist a way to sell art and feel like a part of "normal" society.

My trip to see Folkert Dr Jong at the Hartford Wadsworth

"The Shooting"De Jong

I think what drew me into this piece of art work was the fact that it looked scary . I hate scary things yet always am so inquisitive about what they are. The fear that I felt is what made be want to get closer tot he supcuture.
The artist Folkert de Jong known for his large scale sculptor and installations . These life size
almost scary , scenes some human figures and props are eye catchers. De Jong was born in the Nertherlands 1972 . He studied at he Visual Arts and the Rijk Acadeeny fit Visual Arts where he
lives in works.
De Jong works reflects contemporary politics , society, and war. " In 2008 an interview with De Jonk said " The only way to rise above the problems we are confronted with is to turn them into grotesque. The grotesques allows us to see that everything is relative. the problems we are
confronting is not new. these things happened before" (Wadsworth Antheneum)
"The Shooting ...At Watou" is made of Styrofoam and polyurethane . Unlike paint this art wo
is not environmentally friendly or safe. These materials are toxic. The materials chosen for
this piece are meant for warfare , which gives more understand to the piece. War fare material
used to express the problems of war of the world helps to make the piece more interesting.
"The Shooting" was created for the as a site specific work in Watou, Belgium. Almost like a voice
for salves in war . This must be the purpose of the piece . To give voice to those that have none.
This is a very political piece.
My personal experience with this piece was fear at the beginning . I saw a male face that did not shoe kindness. My parents coming from a poor country some times with war at the door. I began to think of the poor people with no help.I saw a lot of culture in the piece from the dressing of the clothes .

The bright pink colors were not colors of war time. In fact pink to me
represented women. SO this meant the cultures around the world used color symbols different then me. The face of the piece was older. It told the story of war not just of today but, war of
yesterday. The color I remember most in this piece was the pink. For some reason it stood out on a light blue base in the uniform. Color itself was a personal experience I learned. There we three reasons to my experience of color. First the color on the raw material made the mood of
he environment. Second the information given by my memory to my senses , and last the memory over and over stimulated my mind. This gave me some enjoyment. I think the balance in this piece was the balance in color, from top top bottom. There is a light blue base with ping over tone. from head to toe. There is height to this piece. The shooting has very rough edges. I did not want to try to touch it but it looked that way. This piece is an expression
piece. A masculine piece is what I see. The features of a Asian society gave made em reflect on
"Oriental ism the investigation which sparked of the historical and ideology circumstances
surriond the fabrication of the Near East as the , antimoserms, anti
humanistmand semi -barbaric anthesis to European modernity" (The Art of History 1998)

William Glackens "Julia's Sister"

William Glakens 1915 oil painting oil painting is a realist art piece. He was born in the United
States and studied at he Pennsylvania Academy of Art in to New York
City. He helped start Ascha School Art Movement . Glakens was a part of a group called "The
Eight".This is what he press called them . This movement went against the early art work. His signature works included Over sized dark painting . Later he began to include color in his work. All of his work seemed to show reality of times in life. Critics seemed to think his work was similar to Renoir. Life portral in his painting made some critics compare him to Pascin. Some even thought he was am imitation of Pascin.
The meaning of the Painting "Julia Sister" was to picture showed some rebellion of the movement of art. In the 1900's the women movement began and looking at "Julia Sister" really showed(factitious ) that women were on the move to take charge . That meant not only was art rebelling but, so were women. The medium of the work are right on point. Liseners or viewers of the work as I saw it can see that the artist wanted us to see the stregth and attitude in women.
My personal experience with this painting at first I was amazed at how much lipstick was placed on the women's lips. Then I began to see the color of the hair, red have been covered by a hat but to the side the fiery red hair made me see that this women was mad about something . If you look at the arm placed almost on her hip it showed that something is on her mind. I thought sometime I felt the same way. I just always hide my feelings. This picture showed much beauty , into the back ground , very famine picture . I think I related to this mode ]remism picture by self Identification, or with her because I am famine .I wondered what was on her mine. Was it women's rights? The Feminism are history probably was influenced by painting like this. The wide variety of issues such as gender bias are reflected in this paining . Most of all that I got out of this art experience was the understanding that are influences society. Many times I have heard on T.V. about art being an expression. I have never really understood it until now. I think not being exposed to much in my life closed me out of the art world.
This rich color of work has an over tone of darkness. I see alot of female lace , curves, flowers.
placed on the hat of the women , even the chair that she sits on is feminine . The placement in the painting of the woman in the center meant that women in the painting meant the she was the most important . Every other object in the painting seemed small. It was almost like the flowers just enhanced her more . She was the center of attraction. I tried to find out who Julia was since this was her sister. It was not Glacken wife's sister because her name was Eeith Dimock an artist as well.

Jacopo Vignaili " The Head

Jacopo Vignaili (Italian 1592-1664)
I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The most interesting painting I saw was the "Head of the Young Woman with Coral Necklace"The ting that drew me to this picture is the fact that it was a women's face.In fact if I could afford to create a collections it would be a collection of women 's faces. The drama in all of the pieces of art that I see know seems so interesting .
Black and Red Chalk on a white canvas with small framing. This made me understand that paintings did not have to be done in paint only. The thin frame was chosen around the picture maybe because the picture said it all. Vignaili usually dose religious or secular work. This piece was probably a study piece. This is out of the normal work pieces that he dose. There are no icon, or symbols in it . Mostly he enjoyed doing painting that had alter pieces in it.
He was born in Prativecchio and trained under the artist Matteo Rosselli. Was of his most famous works the ceiling of fresco of the "love fi tage Fatherland and Jacob's dream fit he Casa Bunoarroti in Florence.
My personal experience with this art work was almost ironic. If a piece of work that showed no feeling, made me feel . This Meloncolony feeling I see in the picture brought me to think of to thing, one of Abraham Lincoln and a poem called "Casey at the Bat"I found it quite interesting to see the choice of color used by the artist. It seemed as if he wanted to use the red chalk to highlight the picture and the feeling points on the canvas. I saw feeling in the eyes highlighted in the red, cheeks , even when he high lighted the bow and necklace he wanted to show the contrast between some thing pretty and happy verses the cheeks and eyes that were said. This could have been the medium of the art work. No matter how beautiful the things you were look pretty, unless you feel pretty about yourself it will never show. This is the message i took form the painting . This piece of work falls under a realist, Expression .
The coral necklace has a clap that looks like a butterfly. I wonder if there was any meaning .Young women turn inti beautiful women and butterflies have changed also. Art makes you think about life and its changes.

The Methodology of this work is simplicity. It appears as simple as it is because some the artist wanted to simply say , live live, two ways happy or sad. The simple young women is still a women .Simple things in life are beautiful. This piece of art work clearly dose fall under Feminism work. The gender preception is dull, lifeless, and with out feeling .Femisim work was full of life bright and strong .

William Dyce the Artist

William Dyce painted this picture Pegwell Bay, Kent "Endless Forums" Charles Darwin Natural Science and Visual Arts . This show is at the Yale Arts Center for British Arts. William Dyce painted this oil painting canvas painting 1858. He was born in Scotland on the romantic day of febuary 14. in London. Dyce is known as a distinged artist that was very influential educating the public to art in London . He was able to start his art career in London and then travel to Rome . He studied the " Titan and Poussin. He traveled to Germany and France while in these traves he came across artist such as Fredrich and Over Beck.

Pegwell Bay is a beautiful picture that William Dyce painted. The result of a trip made in the fall of 1858, to a getaway resort in Pegwell Bay came the Pegwell painting. In this famous picture features members f his family picking up fossils by the sea. William Dye shows great interest on the geology by his collection data , and "of the flint - encrusted strait eroded faces of the chalk cliffs"(Hermes, Pre Raphealite Art, 2009) William Dyce works are a realist work .

I see in this picture a cross road between science ans man ultimate reality . I see height in this picture from the natural stone walls to the right of the picture. There is also a dis play of balance with the sky. This amazing picture seems almost three dimensional.
I see in the picture a balance of color lighter in some parts , then bright colors to show the purpose of the people.
My personal experience with this almost a connection with my own thoughts about man, religion and science. As I looked into the picture I looked back at myself. The history on man is in all of us . This picture almost is like a cd of time . I thought of the digital dark ages that we are in and said to myself , this is what it means when people say" a picture is worth a thousand words".
A historical journey is what I can see in this picture .
What stands out to me mostly in this picture are the people. Not he frame , not the sky just the people. The artist used smaller detail in the picture on the bottom of the painting and them larger objects to the back. This artist Dyce, gives great detail of natural carving in the stone and sea sides. Pegwell Bay shallow inlet is shown in the painting. The natural resource shows the waders and wildfowl with mudflates and saltmarsh.
I felt that this painting fell in to the expressison style. In some points though there are no religious icons , I felt that this secular work has some religious meaning. Nature reflects God and ultimate reality.

Van Gogh

I visited the Yale Art Gallery, I was very impressed with the styles setting that the are was displayed. I found that the areas in the Yale art Gallery seemed to be an educational setting. The placements of art gave off a mood that seemed to me. I loved seeing the high ceilings with a back base of tan an brick . No much light entered in the Galley . I found that the open space of the galley made the are the eye cacther. I fact the large elevators made me question why would they have such large doors , then I realized that they must move big art in them. So I began to look for big art items .
I came apond the Vincent Van Gogh "Dutch" 1887. Voyer D' Arganson Park at Asinere. Van Gogh was a post impressionist painter. He however was appreciated for his work durin his life time . Born in 1853 , in the Nerthlands Vincent Van Go ugh began his caree in art by being a dealer. Vincent father a was a pastor, and he took an interest in Christianity. Vincent van Gogh himself was a preacher for a short while in Belgium.
It was not until the age of 27, that Vincent Van Gough had decided to become an artist , A self made artist , he had much finical and emotionsl suppepprot byu his younger brother Theo. Vincent Van Gough began t ,live with is brother in Paris and this eh when he was introduced to artist like Degas, Toulouse Lautrec,Pissarro and Guaguin. The influence of these artist mad Vinetn Van gough work change . The impressionism of lighter and brighter style became a part of his work.
Vincent Van Gogh began to show sighs of mental issues when he cut off his left ear after having a fight with a fellow artist Guauguin. After long periods of time in mental hospitals , his battle with depression and other serious mental illness came to an end when when he shot himself in the head and died two days later.

Vincent Van Gogh Corner in Voyer D' Arganson Park at Asinieres 1887. This oil canvas painting done in 1887 was done by Vincent Van Gogh. This painting served as a time line of culture reflection. This painting was not made for secular reason, I think the work contains some symbolism of peaceful times. As in all painting messages spent or relayed to people come from the artist as well as the person that ingest the painting. The message I took from this painting was stand back and see the true beauty of life's simple things . All you need is to look to see.

I see in this picture a peaceful time in life. What stands out most when first looking at he picture to me is the frame. I think You really have to look into the picture to see all the beauty. Van Gogh used oil paints in this picture . The way he painted this was not in a real defined way . It is like he meant to blur the picture a bit. I think it was because he wanted the viewers to look close into . Most of the height in this picture seemed to be placed in the back of the picture as if you where standing looking afar. The balance of this pictures to my surprise Van Gogh placed what seemed to be lighter thin looking objects t the left of the picture and heavy looking blocked items to the right . I wonder why?
This piece fell in the expression style . The oil painting with lots of color fits the 1887 style of painting era .
My personal Discovery is first the discovered that this painting is the work of a genius. At first I thought that what is so special about this painting . I mean at first glance I said I love the frame , then I looked inside the picture to discover that Van Gogh in each stroke had a pre thout reason to make such a painting . I think out of all the pictures This stood out for the non clarity . He used a lot of colors yet, they all mixed together . It was like he wanted this picture to be a memory or a dream. Everyday life was the best. He had meaning in the bricks that he lined down the corner . It was almost as if he wanted you to cross over to the next side. With the use of so many flowers on one side of the picture and just one lady on the other in some way thought that the the women beauty related to the beauty of the flowers. I know one thing this painting changes the way I will look at all other art work from this point

The study of the head of the screaming Pope. Well I wanted to let everyone know that I'm Monica. I am a Criminal Justice Major . I visited the Yale Center for British Art and enjoyed every bit.I am a very quite person at home and seemed to fit in this quite environment of Art. I work with people who need behavior modification. Art is a very important part of their life . They seem to be able to express their feeling though art . I figured that I needed to understand what in Art better, Maybe I will understand them better also.

Yale Center for British Art

This painting is a oil, titled Grace Rose. In deed the Grace she up holds in this photo from pose and virtue shows though the shyness that she looks away from the painter. Though it looks though the surface of this painting so smooth as silk . Grace Rose is not from Japan , but she is experiencing the culture.

Reclining nude This oil painting took my interest because, of the comfortableness of a women with weight on her in the early 1900's to feel as though it was typical thing in life to do.
